LAS TUNAS
Las Tunas is the least visited of Cuba's provinces, seldom meriting a stop by persons traveling along the Carretera Central (Central Highway) between Camaguey and Holguin.
Tourism development at Punta Covarrubias on the Atlantic coast is still in its infancy, and much of the rest of the province is cattle country. The city of Las Tunas has a few monuments and museums dedicated to the 19th century struggles for independence in this area.
The inscription Quemada Antes Que Esclava (burned before enslaved) on the monument in our travel photo recalls the burning of Las Tunas by the Spanish during the Second War of Independence.
